Tribute
to our friend, Zen Magus

The late, great, ZEN MAGUS' contribution to the Trocadero Alumni Orchestra will be forever remembered.

In 1991, after the original rehearsal group started to mature, they turned to Zen for help -- Zen provided an extensive library of charts that had been accumulated over the decades. It was Zen who observed the affiliation of most of the members with the old Trocadero Ballroom, and crowned the new rehearsal group the "Trocadero Alumni Orchestra".

As a dominant player in the city for many years, he would be called not only to direct the Troc rehearsals, but sit in on TRUMPET, and SAX. Also, a great number of the songs played by the band were Zen's personal arrangements.

During his career, he fielded several professional bands -- one of his last major concerts was a "Tribute to Stan Kenton"- a band known for having one of the most powerful, exciting music in jazz history. Zen's tribute orchestra pulled together the best musicians from the city, and along with his pal Tommy Banks, put on a fabulous show; 10 years later, people are still talking about it.

To list all of Zen's friends and artists that he influenced and helped in their musical career would be as large as a phone book. He is remembered fondly by all of the musicians of the Trocadero Orchestra, and the generous legacy of Zen's library will live on with every breath the band takes.
